Top 11 storage system companies in the U.S.

Offerings in the sector vary widely to accommodate the size, shape, weight, use and configuration of items being stored. Systems also coordinate with material handling vehicles to facilitate effective retrieval and transport.

According to data gathered by IndustryNet from 70 companies, in the past year, storage has shown growth in both employment and sales.

Jobs have risen at 4.35 percent, from 2,964 to 3,093. Sales have increased 4.36 percent, from $998 million to the current average level of $1.04 billion.

Storage system companies are rising to the increasing challenge of e-commerce. They are providing new and better options for data storage facilities.

They are also enabling warehouses, manufacturers and distribution centers to more efficiently utilize space.

The companies below highlight these and other ways in which storage is integral to both private and governmental functions.

Top 11 companies by number of employees

Spectra Logic Corp. The 3,000 employees of Spectra Logic Corp., in Boulder, Colorado, are devoted to the preservation of data.

The company sells the world's highest-capacity tape library. Working with industry partners, they offer complete optimization of workflow.

Mobile Mini Inc. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, this company provides 2,430 jobs. It has 136 locations in the U.S. as well as many overseas. They are the largest provider of mobile storage solutions in the world.

Speedrack Products Group Ltd. They have a workforce of 1,800. At the forefront of storage innovation for 55 years, the company is a global leader. Speedrack has recently installed advanced beam welding robots at its Quincy, Michigan, facility.

The new equipment will allow for greater versatility in the company's products.

Datum Storage Solutions. Their 1,500 employees in Emigsville, Pennsylvania, create alternatives to relocation for their customers. Datum's high-density storage units increase the space in existing facilities by up to three times.

Options that Datum offers include mobile, sliding and rotary systems.

Agility Fuel Solutions. The 1,500 employees of Agility Fuel Solutions in Salisbury, North Carolina, offer safe and effective storage of compressed gases. Their developments enable natural gas, propane and hydrogen to be used as transportation fuels.

The company has over 400 alternative fuel specialists strategically located to provide services wherever they are needed to fleet operators, original equipment manufacturers and dealers.

Kingspan Panels Holdings USA. Located in Deland, Florida, they are an expert in environmental control. Their Tate® brand of cabinets are designed for raised floors in data centers. Cooling is provided just where it is needed by reverse flow, while hot exhaust air is isolated.

Though founded in Ireland, the company has a staff of over 1,500 in North America, with 1,200 employees in Deland.

American Van Equipment Inc. Customers seeking storage for installation in their vehicles need to look no further than American Van Equipment Inc. Whether for organizing parts or a mobile office, this company provides the necessary units. There are 1,066 workers employed in the Lakewood, New Jersey, system

EQUIPTO. Located in Tatamy, Pennsylvania, they are a leader in the space utilization market. Its 1,050 employees serve clients such as Caterpillar, Harley Davidson and Boeing.

This company also works with the U.S. military to provide safe and effective weapons storage.

Pipp Mobile Storage Systems Inc. This company in Walker, Michigan, specializes in creating increased capacity by providing organization for the retail, health care, hospitality, automotive and many other industries.

Its mobile carriages maximize space while easing the handling of loads. The company employs a staff of 1,000 to accommodate its rapidly growing customer base.

Storage Solutions Inc. They install and distribute storage equipment brands including Speedrack, Teardrop, Interlake, Structural, Wildeck Mezzanines & Platforms, Nashville Wire, Unarco, Worldwide Material Handling, Interroll and Starco.

The company in Westfield, Indiana, holds a $1 million general contractors license in the state of Tennessee. Its installers and subcontractors are Occupational Safety and Health Administration trained. A staff of 1,000 serves customers' needs.

PCI Mfg. They provide high-quality liquid storage for oil and gas. The company has more than 50 years of experience in heavy industry. Its 950 workers in Sulfur Springs, Texas, specialize in custom orders, nonstandard specifications and Occupational Safety and Health Administration-compliant solutions.
