Labels
A label (distinct from signage), is a piece of metal or other material affixed to a product or container on which is written, printed or engraved information about the product.
Labels have many uses: • Providing information on a product’s origin • Use • Shelf-life • Disposal • Material codes • Handling procedures • Or to enable the tracking and tracing of materials at each stage of the manufacturing process When implementing a labeling solution, it is practical to consider a labelthat will last as long as the life of the product so that re-labeling is not needed again in a few years, because the label cannot withstand exposure to the typical hazards associated with the environment it is exposed to. Stainless steel labels are the perfect choice, as the material can withstand: • Harsh environmental exposure • Corrosion • General handling • Extreme weather and extreme temperatures • Salt spray exposure Stainless steel labels are commonly used for the following: • Petroleum • Laboratory • Food processing • Medical • Chemical • Textile The grades of steel that are the best choices for labels are: 304 – which is the standard “18/8” stainless steel. It is the most versatile and most widely used. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics. 316 – is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel containing molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum increase general corrosionresistance and provides increased strength at elevated temperatures. Some Types Of Metal Barcode Labels: Metal photo aluminum barcode labels – are sealed beneath a sapphire hard anodic layer. This type of label can survive in temperatures up to 650F. It is readable in harsh environments and is proven to last the life of the product. Teflon on aluminum barcode labels – this is suitable for applications That require resistance to cleaning, pickling, painting, e-coat or powder Coating process. Also resist contact with caustics, strong acids and temperatures up to 300F. Extra high temperature durable bar code labels –these resist Temperatures up to 1200F which is ideal for work-in-process or product identification applications that are exposed to extremely high temperatures. Stainless steel barcode labels – this are resistant to regular cleaning with strong caustics and remains durable after exposure in harsh environments. Stainless Steel Bar Code Labels offer and expected exterior life span of over twenty years. Helpful tips when ordering stainless steel barcode labels: • Provide a proper description of the application that the labels are needed for as some applications require more than an ordinary bar code label • Pricing - obtain few estimates and compare pricing. Some manufacturers offer a discount for bulk order • Do the manufacturer offer assistance with design and layout? • Ask to see samples of work • Choose a manufacturer who has a good reputation and is willing to work with your desired specification. • Confirm the manufacturer uses only 304 or 316 stainless steel grade types for their products. • Manufacturer should have knowledgeable staff available to assist with guidance and information on the production process of your order and also assist with shipping and tracking. • Check for accreditations and certifications
